Terms & Definitions

The following are common terms you will hear from team members during an investigation. These terms are not just limited to our team, however, and are widely believed and used by many different organizations and people.

Anomaly: An event or occurrence that happens outside common conditions.
Apparition: The appearance or projection of an entity. These tend to be of human-origin.
Demon: An entity supposedly of non-human origin believed to be hostile by nature.
Ectoplasm: A phenomenon which resembles soaked muslin fabric.
Entity: A term used to describe an unknown disembodied consciousness.
E.V.P.: or Electronic Voice Phenomena. Disembodied voices and sounds recorded onto audio recording devices.
Ghost: A common term used for the deceased when it’s believed their spirit remains earth bound. The term is applied to the spirit when it is active in a location and disrupts its living inhabitants.
Haunt: or Haunting. A term used to describe a location which contains one or more non-living entities that are disrupting its living inhabitants.
Lore: A term used to describe legends and beliefs of unknown origin and undetermined truth.
Materialized: A witnessed event by which an entity seems to appear “from thin air”.
Matrix: or anthropomorphize.The minds recognition of familiar shapes and sounds from random patterns.
Orb: A translucent sphere-shaped anomaly believed to be energy by which entities can manifest.
Paranormal: Occurrences which exist and occur outside the general conception of normal.
Poltergeist: A hostile entity with similar characteristics of demons.
Residual Haunting: The imprint of an person or event which is believed to play over and over.
